Included in your fees are supplies for each house such as cleaning products, toilet paper, sponges, garbage bags, light bulbs, dish soap, and all-purpose cleaner . Co-op supplies vacuums for house use.  Cleaning supplies and vacuums are supplied to assist everyone in keeping your house clean.

Whenever you notice that supplies are running low, go to the Kitchen coordinator, Thomas, or MSC, Dawn for whatever you may need.

Please note that we have a bio-friendly cleaning regime whereby members must refill empty spray bottles with pre-mixed bio-friendly spray.

As a Co-op Member, you are responsible for keeping your house and your room clean. Members of the house must have at least one meeting at the beginning of each term to set up a cleaning schedule that everyone agrees to.

A sample-cleaning schedule has been supplied to each House Manager for them to modify. A good schedule will indicate which member has to do which chore by which date. This chart relieves confusion regarding who is supposed to do what and makes it easy for staff to assess who is slacking on cleaning duties. Everyone must realize the importance of keeping the common areas clean.

When an agreement is reached about working to maintain a clean house it will be easier to deal with housemates who are not doing their share

House inspections will take place once a month.  The cleaning staff comes in once a month to clean common areas.

Almost all houses are a few minutes’ walk from Queens University. The furthest location is 29/31 Nelson St which is a seven minute walk.

Operations hours

To run the Co-op a certain amount of day-in day-out work must be done.  Therefore, both the Meal Members and Non-Meal Members need to provide 3 additional hours called ‘operations hours’ (ops hours) each term.

A selection of jobs from which you can choose are posted periodically in the dining hall and advertised via e-mail by the Operations Director. Ops duties can also be organised by a board or staff member the General Manager, the Maintenance Coordinator and the Member Services Coordinator.

Work duties include jobs in the houses, like cleaning common areas and outdoor work such as lawn maintenance.  Each task has an associated number of Co-op hours allotted to it and a running total is kept for each member by the Operations Director.

Kitchen hours

The Meal Plan members perform much of the work needed to operate the Meal Plan. There are many different duties. Kitchen shifts are a great time to meet and socialize with other members.

Each meal-plan member is required to perform 3 hours of kitchen duties per week.

You will be assigned a job at the beginning of each semester based on your class schedule.

Please provide 12 to 24 hours notice before missing a scheduled shift. Members are required to switch or find a cover for their shifts.
